AUDITION for our Fall 2024 show: “The Language of Flowers” by Edit Villarreal, a Chicano adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, set during Día de los Muertos. Directed by Manuel José Pickett.

WHEN: June 17 & 18, 2024 | 6pm-8pm

WHERE: California Stage, 2509 R Street, Sacrament0, CA (Venue is wheelchair accessible, gender neutral restrooms available, free street parking & gravel lot parking, close to public transport.)

CASTING for the following roles:
JULIAN BOSQUET: Banker, second generation Mexican-American.

JULIET BOSQUET… his daughter.

CANDELARIA MARTINEZ…Romeo’s mother. In the U.S., undocumented.

ROMEO MARTINEZ… her son. Also, undocumented.

BENNY MARTINEZ: Romeo’s cousin. American born. Combines the qualities of Shakespeare’s Benvolio and Mercutio.

TOMMY BOSQUET…Juliet’s cousin. Julian’s nephew.

RUBEN GUTIERREZ…Law School student. In love with Juliet.

SGT LOPEZ…With LAPD. Distantly related to Bosquet. Though of the same generation as Julian, considers himself Chicano.

FATHER LAWRENCE…Hispanophile priest. Avid researcher of rainforest plants.

MARIA…Maid in Bosquet home. Unwilling mistress of Julian.

MANUEL…Servant in Bosquet home. A calavera or skeleton

Ensemble of Calaveras, also play various other roles: Curandero/a (Herbalist); Homeboy, Cop, etc… (Any age, gender. Open to all levels of experience.)
